Code of Conduct

All members, coaches and guests of Champions Cricket Club agree to:

• Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person in the game.
• Treat everyone equally and never discriminate on any grounds — and challenge discrimination rather than let it go unchallenged.
• Display high standards of behaviour and promote fair play.
• Learn the laws and rules and play within them, respecting officials' decisions.
• Discourage unfair play, rule violations and arguing with officials.
• Recognise good performance and effort, not just results, and encourage participation.
• Put the wellbeing and safety of young players ahead of winning, and keep activities suited to each player's age, maturity and ability.
• Respect young players' opinions about their own participation, and remember they take part for their own enjoyment.
• Keep to the 30m 'no-go' area around the nets and field during practice unless coaching or playing.
• Not smoke, drink or use banned substances while working with players, and never provide alcohol to young people in the club's care.
• Follow ECU rules and byelaws, and report any concern about a young person through the correct channels.

Club rules for members

• Play within the laws and spirit of cricket, respecting officials and their decisions.
• Show respect to all opponents and guests of the club.
• Follow coaches' instructions and keep to agreed training and match times — let your coach or manager know if you'll be late.
• Always accept the umpire's call, without dissent or provocation; raise any dispute calmly through a coach or manager.
• Never use abusive language or offensive gestures, or deliberately distract an opponent.
• Accept victory or defeat in the best spirit.
• Wear suitable kit and full protective gear when batting or keeping wicket, as advised by the coach.
• Pay membership fees promptly.
• No smoking, alcohol or drugs on club premises or while representing the club.

Failure to follow these rules may lead to a disciplinary hearing conducted by the executive committee.

Bylaws — key points

Champions is affiliated with Eastern Cricket, and the club's byelaws follow those of the EJCCA. The full document is in the download above — here are the essentials.

Registration

• Complete a club registration form with two ID photos, a copy of the player's ID or birth certificate, and a signed transfer form if moving from another club.
• All members are registered with Eastern Cricket. Existing members need not re-register.
• Membership fees are payable by all members by the club's start-of-season deadline; a R100 trials fee applies and is deducted from membership fees.

Age groups

• U8, U10, U12, U14 and U16 — a player must be younger than, or turn that age by the end of December of the year the season begins.
• Players may play up an age group but not down. Girls may play one year up in their league age group.

Match days & dress

• Day matches: Saturday mornings, start 08:30 (arrive 08:00 to warm up). Night matches: Friday evenings, start 18:00 (arrive 17:30).
• Dress code: club shirt and cap, cream or white cricket longs, white socks and cricket shoes, with full protective kit for batters and wicket-keepers.
